I mostly play euro and ameritrash games with family and friends. But as for wargames, I prefer solo games as they tend to take very long and I enjoy playing them one-two turns at a time.
My go-to solo wargames are:
D-Day at Tarawa - A great Butterfield design. You control the American forces for the landing on Beito Island against Japanese forces controlled by AI.
COIN Series - I only have Cuba Libre but I enjoy it enough that I didn't feel the need to buy the others. The bots are well made but sometimes get tedious to manage so I tend to control 2-3 factions.
Enemy Action: Ardennes - The new game by Butterfield. Still trying to figure out the rules.
VPG - SoS games: These are short solo games. Ottoman Sunset and Hapsburg Eclipse are about the World War I and can be integrated into a longer game. Dawn of the Zeds (2nd ed.) is a fantastic game but I would wait for the third edition which will be even better from what I saw in the previews. Cruel Necessity is about British civil wars, probably the most complex of the SoS games.
VPG has another great solo game which is not a wargame: Darkest Night. It's very similar to Eldritch Horror with less story telling but more decision making.
Finally, another non-wargame that I recently got and enjoy quite a bit is Assault on Doomrock. It's a different take on RPG games with no boards, but kind of an abstract combat. Really enjoyable with great humor.
BUT, I concur with everybody else. Mage Knight is still the best solo game ever made in my opinion.
